A lot of people will think that the people who come to visit the Kataragama Temple on pilgrimage treat these elephants. It has been a tradition for Sri Lankans to offer food to animals in large quantities all over the history to the present day of Sri Lanka.
An elephant that takes bribes for a road pass caught in the act-Elephants in the region have become used to this, and few of these giants are regular to practice these behavior being friendly wanting more food from anyone that passes by. People will think that it is wrong to feed them, and all but they are only given with fruits like Bananas and watermelons found in the area.
Wildlife officers in the area are very active as well, and they often patrol around to chase them back to their homely forest habitats. As soon as these elephants see the trucks that belong to wildlife officers they hesitate no moment, they quickly run towards the jungle like their lives depend on it.
