Sri Lanka is an island nation full of Elephants that roam the streets and through village areas freely in many regions of the country. There are several thousands of them that are taken care of by the wildlife department and the loving citizens of the island. Most educated in the country are continually fighting corruption, and animal abuse, especially towards the treasures that elephants are to the state as Sri Lankan elephants are known as the largest and the strongest among Asian elephants.
This situation happened in Polonnaruwa, which is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central Province. This elephant was shot by an unidentified party which has been up to such notorious hootings in the region. These hunters have been able to stay under the radar of the officials as these jungles span across massive areas which is rough to navigate through and easy for anyone to hide in. Wildlife department, together with Police officers, are looking into this situation to catch these wrongdoers who engage in hunting-related activities. Also, such wildlife officers have advised and warned villagers that set up traps to hunt down innocent animals that raid crops as it is a part of their nature.
Wildlife officers arrived at the scene with all the medical supplies they need to give this elephant some relief and to assess the situation to plan the treatment and surgical process.
